ASP
PHILOSOPHY, LOGIC AND TIMING
BACKGROUND
Arrendale
Associates, founded in 1989, is known for integrated transcription and
document management systems. We are a recognized leader in the HIM software
industry and provide customized transcription and document management
solutions to over 110 hospitals nationwide with the Transcript Advantage
product line. The TAeSeries® product suite, in development since early
1998, is designed to accommodate the electronic document needs of healthcare
facilities in either an ASP or standalone environment. TAeSeries®
integrated,
Internet-enabled systems provide flexible workflow of voice and text files.
TAeJax, the TAeSeries® Job Allocation Manager, accepts voice files
over the Internet from Arrendale, Lanier, Dictaphone, DVI, and hand-held
dictation or voice recognition systems. These voice files can then be
delivered over the Internet to a transcriptionist in-house or at-home.
TAeSeries® voice and document management integrate transcription service
created transcriptions into the customers imaging and document management
systems, solving this prevalent HIM Director problem.
EXPENSE
YOUR DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
AAIs
ASP offering enables funding for Electronic Document Management Systems
to be expensed from operating costs on a per transaction (transcribed
line) usage basis. The current industry cost for each line of in-house
transcription is about 19 cents, mostly associated with the cost and overhead
of transcription FTEs. By allocating the current cost of in-house transcription
to AAI, we will deliver an entire document management system, paid for
from current operating funds. No budget approval needed, no competition
for capital budget dollars. And AAI provides immediate employment of
your in-house transcriptionists.
By
allowing AAI to transcribe any or all of your current in-house transcription,
the TAeSeries® document management system, complete with a digital dictation
system, can be included. In this ASP environment, AAI takes 100% responsibility
for dictation, transcription, document management and technical support,
including FTE requirements and all interfacing, integrating and installation.
Upgrades and new enhancements are conducted by AAI using Internet push
technology, which does not involve valuable hospital technical resources.
AAIs document management system has grown over the past 12 years and
now includes remote printing, batch printing, automatic faxing, secure
on-line viewing, physician electronic signature, patient record storage
(4th quarter 2001) and audit logs of all viewing, printing
and signing.
TIMING
The
advent of the Internet, coupled with lower cost, high-speed connections,
and the acceptance of personal computers by the transcription industry,
is causing CIOs to look closer at ASP technology. AAIs offering is
unique in that TAeSeries® can be deployed as an ASP from AAIs data center,
or hardware and software can be installed at the hospitals data center.
AAI understands there are concerns in the Industry pertaining to HIPAA
compliance, ASP reliability and Internet security. TAeSeries® can be
seamlessly deployed at the hospital, and then moved over time, gradually,
(report type by report type or department by department) to AAIs data
center, as trust in ASP technology evolves. For those CIOs that are
looking for an ASP service because of the simplification advantages, TAeSeries®
is HIPAA-enabled and AAI can deploy our ASP for your enterprise today.
SUMMARY
Transcription
is an ideal candidate for the application service provider model since
these services are frequently paid for on a fee for transcribed line arrangement
with outside transcription service companies already. The ASP model is
rapidly becoming popular with healthcare administration since capital
budget expenditures are eliminated. Several trends in the healthcare and
information technology arena have brought about the rise of the ASP business
model. Primary considerations leading to the increase of ASP methodology
are:
- Growth
of the Internet
- Increased
Transmission Speeds
-
Lack of Healthcare Enterprise Funding for Desired New Products
- Need
to Simplify Within Health Information Management and Information Technology
- Impending
HIPAA Legislation
